Upcoming Rap Sessions

Rap Session Info

Have you been bullied because of your sexual orientation?

MAY8 2012
  • Time: 7PM-8:30PM
  • Location: Billy DeFrank Center, 938 The Alameda, San Jose
  • Facilitator: Brandon E.

In the past years, several young LGBT members have resorted to taking their own life due to peer discrimination or gay bullying. It is finally receiving national attention, and campaigns have been started to curb gay bullying.

While growing up, have you been bullied because of your sexual orientation? Did you receive derogatory comments, or physical aggression? What about cyber gay bullying? Let's talk about this during the rap session, and discuss what more we can do to help end LGBT discrimination, especially in schools.

(After our rap session, we'll head out to a local dive for dinner together as a group.)

Due to the sensitive topics and subjects we discuss at our rap sessions which often times are only applicable to Queer Asian/Pacific Islanders (APIs), we appreciate the understanding of our non-API friends and allies to join us at all other sbQA events. SBQA raps are a safe and empowering space for Queer APIs

Being gay, lesbian, transgender or bisexual can be a challenging experience for many of us. It becomes even more complicated when you involve mom and dad, family and being Asian. Many questions arise. Who should I date? How do I play it safe when it comes to sex? Where have all the cowboys gone? How do I meet Mr./Ms. Right? How do I tell my family about me? Where do I meet men or women?

So let's talk! At our rap sessions, we meet in a group to talk about various different topics. SBQA presents a variety of interesting topics, including "coming out," relationships, discrimination, and safe-sex. Members can also bring up personal issues to the group and receive feedback and advice. And we do it in a safe, relaxing, friendly environment. Everything is kept confidential, so don't worry!

Our rap sessions are open to all Asian and Pacific Islander gay, lesbian, transgender, bisexual or questioning men and women. We meet every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at the Billy DeFrank Center in San Jose, CA. Join us for dinner afterwards at a nearby restaurant.
